Todd Mitchell Joins NCSE Board of Directors

February 24, 2004--Mr. Todd Mitchell, President of the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC), has joined the Board of Directors of the National Council for Science and the Environment Board (NCSE).  As President of HARC, Mitchell has been a strong supporter of sustainability science to improve human and ecosystem well-being.  HARC is an independent research center that cooperates with universities, government and industry to consider the complex interactions between people and ecosystems in the greater Houston metropolitan area, the Texas Gulf Coast, and the Texas/Mexico border region.  The center seeks to provide a firm scientific background for public policy decisions.

Mitchell was elected President of HARC in 2001 and has been Chairman of the Board since 2000.  Before joining HARC  he was co-founder of Strand Energy, the oil and gas exploration company, and Rock Solid Images, the developer of seismic and petrophysical technologies for reservoir imaging.  Mitchell has been President of GPM, a family-owned investment company, since 1998, and President of Dolomite Resources, Inc., a mineral exploration and investments company, since 1987.  He currently serves as a Director of Devon Energy, which is one of the largest producers of natural gas in the U.S.  From 1993 to 2002 he was on the Board of Mitchell Energy and Development Company.

Actively involved with a number of non-profit organizations, Mitchell has been a board member or volunteer for the Woodlands Center for Performing Arts, Texas Nature Conservancy, Houston Wilderness, and Center for Houston’s Future.

He earned his M.A. in Geology from The University of Texas at Austin and his B.A. in Geology from The Colorado College.
